Cannabis-derived substances

Various companies are developing drugs based substances found in cannabis, such as cannabidiol.

Parkinson’s UK & King’s College London: researches cannabidiol (CBD) is a small molecule that acts as a cannabinoid receptor agonist. It is being investigated for its potential to treat psychosis in Parkinson’s disease by modulating the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in mood, perception, and cognitive processes.

University of Colorado: Similar to the previous institute, the University of Colorado uses CBD as a cannabinoid receptor agonist to investigate its effects on motor impairment in Parkinson’s disease. By activating cannabinoid receptors, it may help to reduce motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s.

University Health Network, Toronto, researches how cannabis oil, containing cannabinoids, acts as a cannabinoid receptor agonist and could alleviate pain in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Cannabinoids are known to have analgesic properties, which may help reduce pain through the modulation of pain pathways.
